Women's program needs support from LO members
Landscape Ontario, in partnership with Humber College, the Vanier Centre for Women and the Elizabeth Fry Society Peel-Halton, is once again applying for funding to the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skilled Training (formerly MTCU) to offer a pre-apprenticeship Horticultural Technician program on site at the Vanier Centre.
This program will engage women currently placed at the Centre who are serving two-years less a day for provincial offences.
With the help of the partners mentioned above and the members of Landscape Ontario, it is hoped to find placements for the women once released. The support from Landscape Ontario membership is crucial for the success of this program. It is hoped that LO members will see the merit in this program and complete the attached letter of support indicating endorsement of the program and interest, as well as level of participation in the program.
Women in placements will have met all the curriculum requirements for Level 1 horticultural technician and will already have quite an extensive knowledge of groundskeeping, including turf management, planters, gardening, and the laying of interlocking stone.
If you have any questions, please contact Lynn VanLieshout at lynn.vanlieshout@humber.ca or call 416-675-6622, ext. 5129.
Completed support letters should be e-mailed to lynn.vanlieshout@humber.ca, or faxed to 416-675-6681.
