Waterloo Chapter Mental Health Workshop
Wednesday, February 4, 2026 | 11:30 AM - 2 PM
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 412 | 601 Wellington St. N., Kitchener
Featured speaker: Jeff Carolin
Using Mindfulness & Needs Consciousness to Better Navigate the StressJeff Carolin will work with us to create a warm (and perhaps even playful) environment where he will introduce two related frameworks that are helpful for navigating the everyday stressors of this work: mindfulness & needs consciousness. Mindfulness invites in the possibility that while we often can't control the waves that come at us, we can actually learn to surf. Needs consciousness offers the idea that underneath our emotions lie psychological needs (security, freedom, connection, etc.) that are either going met or unmet -- and that becoming aware of these needs can help us develop better strategies for making sure that our needs are getting met. Rather than just talking about these frameworks, Jeff will use an interactive and participatory approach that will invite us into mindfulness practices, self-reflection, and opportunities to share with and learn from our colleagues.
Jeff Carolin is a conflict coach, facilitator and relational mediator. He has previously works with London and Toronto LO chapters. When working with groups, Jeff focuses on inviting people into a more connected way of being together, which then allows the group to tap into the wisdom, experience, and skill that is already present.
