Perry Molema was an avid gardener, talented Landscape Designer and Canadian Ponding Pioneer. He was a long-time member of Landscape Ontario and spent years acting as President of both the Windsor and Toronto Chapters. He was an innovator and fastidious supporter of the water gardening revolution; a role further emphasized when he became the Canadian Sales Director for Aquascape Inc. He was truly fascinated by the Ecosystem of the Pond and its potential to impact the world through the environmental benefits of RainXchange systems. Many of you have met Perry or attended one of his seminars as he actively worked with Aquascape and Landscape Ontario to educate, motivate and inspire those in the business. As a result of his passion it is no surprise that his work took him outside of Canada to places like Switzerland, France, Australia, Turkey and Egypt; installing water features using RainXchange, teaching the trade and educating people about the benefits of water harvesting.
Sadly, Perry Molema passed away on December 22, 2012 as a result of injuries from a car accident. He is sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues. As a result of his lasting impression on those around him a parkette has been designated for his memory in his hometown of Chatham, Ontario. As a tribute to his love of nature, beauty and ponding some of his closest friends have teamed together and designed an interactive and integrated garden with a RainXchange system as its focal point. The hope is that this will be a place where family and friends of Perry can immerse themselves in his passion and remember, but also a sanctuary for those who did not know him to come and appreciate. A place for all people to enjoy, as well as add to the beautification and revitalization of downtown Chatham.
Your help is needed before September 23
The project will go before town council and September 23 and if enough funds are in place then, the build will start in late September/early October. If enough funds are not in place by then, the build will happen in the spring of 2014. The build will be located at the corner of William Street and King Street, downtown Chatham. The Memorial Garden will be built by Perry’s closest friends. The funds collected will be used to purchase rocks, gravel, permeable pavers, plant material, soil, mulch, etc. Most of the materials have been offered to us at cost or as close to cost as possible. All labour will be donated and all Aquascape materials needed for the build will be donated by Aquascape. Some of the funds collected will help maintain the memorial garden.
If you have further questions, or would like to donate labour or materials, please contact Sasha Hunter, Shunter@aquascapeinc.com or 416-737-4337 or or Chuck Catton
