Nu-Gro to acquire Pursell Vigoro
The consumer and professional turf markets in Canada may undergo another change with the recent agreement in principle between Nu-Gro Corporation and Pursell Industries Inc. of Birmingham, Alabama to purchase the business of Pursell Vigoro Canada. The transaction is expected to close this fall.
While all terms of the agreement were not disclosed, the overall result would be that Nu-Gro would acquire the Pursell-Canada operations, including the plant and equipment located in Tillsonburg, Ontario, Pursell-Canada's trademarks, as well as Canadian rights to the Vigoro® trademark under a long-term license agreement with Pursell Industries, Inc. Pursell-Canada's 36 employees will join Nu-Gro's 250 employees.
"This acquisition is consistent with our growth strategy for the Canadian lawn and garden market," says John Hill, Nu-Gro's president and CEO. "The high quality products from Pursell will be an excellent enhancement to our comprehensive range of products. Integrating the businesses during the upcoming year will maximize the efficiencies in the plants and enhance customer service in terms of sales order processing, warehousing, freight and logistics."
Taylor Pursell, chairman of Pursell Industries, Inc. sees the possible acquisition as a way to concentrate on their U.S. market, "while at the same time, providing us with a strong partner to service customers of the Vigoro® brand in Canada," he says.
