New home for Canadian Greenhouse conference

The Canadian Greenhouse Conference (CGC) moves to the International Centre in Toronto, after it became apparent that after 22 years, the former location at the University of Guelph (U of G) no longer met the conference’s space requirements.

Held October 3 to 4, the CGC will be held under one roof, and not scattered throughout a handful of buildings as it had been at the U of G.

The decision was a tough one to make, says Cliff Janitsch, CGC executive chairman. After months of study, the group concluded, “there was really no other choice. We had outgrown the University of Guelph, and I think the school felt the same way.”

CGC searched out alternate locations in Toronto, Hamilton, Niagara Falls, London and Kitchener before settling on the International Centre.

With this move, the CGC will be able to satisfy both exhibitors and attendees by expanding the trade show and offer the increased space to those companies that had been on the waiting list for several years. “This could lead to more international exhibitors,” suggests Janitsch. It could also lead to an increase in exhibitors from the vegetable sectors, and allow more room for companies wanting to display packing machinery and other equipment.

Admittance costs are expected to remain static, though exhibitors may face a slight increase.

The CGC will continue to maintain close ties with the university. “After 22 years of unparalleled success at the University of Guelph, the conference would like to thank them for their support. We have asked those from the university, especially the Hort Club, to stay involved,” says Janitsch.
