Robert Adams
LO President

tom intven What does Landscape Ontario mean to me, and why am I a member? Well, let me think back to a couple of scenarios.

Aldershot Landscaping had a customer in our area, which is a long way for its staff to travel, so it approached Horst Dickert to co-ordinate the job. Horst travelled to the French River area to a quarry owned by Joe Melo, where he selected hundreds of tons of granite. When the job was done, Bill DeLuca and Horst needed to find someone to maintain the site. Horst suggested my firm, as I do work in the area. This is a great example of four members working together for the benefit of each other.

The interior designer working on a cottage in the Lake of Bays area of Muskoka hired Beth Edney of Designs by the Yard to create a plan for the exterior of the property. After the plan was approved, Beth hired my firm to install the project. Phase two of the project called for the installation of a pergola in the centre of the driveway. I hired D. Holmlund Landscaping from Wasaga Beach, as fine carpentry is one of his strengths. I also contacted another member of Landscape Ontario to install the irrigation system. Once again, here are four members working together.

All of the members involved in these two projects have been involved in LO at different levels. The important thing is that they are involved. LO is yours and mine and exists to serve the needs of the members. The benefits are greater than just the material things you receive. It is much, much more. Get the most out of your membership. Become involved.

Local area projects can be coordinated through your local chapter and involve many different LO members. The key is to be a member and work within your community. Knowing, participating and contributing to the organization as a whole, will only make LO and your presence more noticeable. We are a professional organization which has a diverse wealth of knowledge and expertise.
