London chapter sponsors leadership scholarship at Fanshawe College
Congratulations to Tricia Johns, the first recipient of the LO London Chapter Student Leadership Award. Tricia received a cheque for $500 at a ceremony on Dec. 5, 2007.
The recipient of the newly developed award must:
A selection committee, consisting of members of the London chapter, decided to award Tricia the prize.
In her letter of application, Tricia noted, “Through my constant participation (representing the Fanshawe Student Chapter at London Chapter meetings), I have been able to represent and give a face to my fellow classmates. I have been able to act as a liaison between the professionals of the green industry and my colleagues, providing contacts, connections and opportunities. Secondly, I have been able to act as a conduit on behalf of Landscape Ontario for information, ideas and prospects for my student community. Often I’m able to relay to my colleagues the pertinence of certain qualifications and credentials required by our industry. Lastly, I’ve been able to represent Landscape Ontario at Fanshawe College as the student chapter vice-president. This privilege has given me the opportunity to encourage my fellow students to pursue their green goals, strengthen their trade skills, and take on their ambitions of being successful members of the green industry. As vice-president, I constantly reinforce the concepts that teamwork, professionalism and excellent work ethic are the tenets of our green profession.”
The recipient of the newly developed award must:
- Be enrolled in the second year of either the Horticulture Technician or Landscape Design program at Fanshawe College on full-time basis and is a member of the LO London Student Chapter.
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA with no course failures, withdrawals or incomplete grades in both the first and second semester.
- Have demonstrated a high degree of leadership and interest in the student chapter and industry partnerships. The ability to stimulate fellow students to think creatively and critically, knowledge and volunteerism in all student chapter functions, respectfulness, teamwork and enthusiasm for the green industry will be carefully considered.
