Qualified to Close – Ten Years of Selling Landscape Lighting
Are you spending your time selling?  Or closing sales?
Are you in front of those prospects with the highest probability of closing?

In this session Mark will discuss:

  Qualifying vs. Dis-qualifying your prospect
Questions to ask on the first telephone call
Should you really ask for a lighting design fee?!
Presenting the client their lighting plan
Stop selling and assume the sale!

Stop wasting valuable time with tire kickers.  Instead, invest your effort with those that will invest with you. Learn how to tell the difference and relax a bit, you’re in control!

Michael Deo is the president and founder of NatureScape Lighting and an award winning lighting designer. Since he is also formally trained in landscape design, his lighting projects reflect a deep knowledge of horticulture. He is keenly aware of how plants change not only with the seasons but over time and how each will react to light. His signature style is evident anywhere there is texture – beautiful millwork, exfoliating bark, the transparent leaves of a Japanese maple.

His knowledge of LED lighting application in the landscape caused clients to seek his help and guidance inside their homes, too. Years of research, sampling and testing has led to several successful interior projects implementing SSL. In the world of LED lighting, education never ends!

Michael has taught lighting design and appears as a guest lecturer in residential garden design classes. He has also been a contributing writer of trade publications and has appeared on television. He is an active member of the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP), and is also a member of the Designer’s Lighting Forum of NY; NJNLA; International Dark Sky Association; and US Green Building Council – NJ.

Mike and his bride of 24 years, Lisa, have two junior lighting designers, Alexa and Michael, who often accompany Dad on after-dark critiques.  They live in the green foothills of north-central New Jersey where they all preach the gospel of good lighting.

   MARK CARLSON
Landscape Lighting Design — ‘To Be Inspired’
Mark's goal is to instill inspiration and a desire to perform better within this trade specialty.

It is also his hope that his presentation will open the eyes to those performing in more of a ‘production-oriented’ mode.  It is his desire that each participant better understands how to view a scene and to understand what stimulates one’s mind through this visual imagery.

Join Mark for an enlightening discussion on the sectors classification as, “Landscape Lighting Designers” and being considered “Professional”. He will include a pictorial showcase of common landscape lighting scenes— mistakes  and failures and what he believes constitutes  a good landscape lighting application. Mark will share with delegates what inspires him; nature and sunlight! He will also list ‘should-be’ goals for the landscape lighting designer. This keynote will provide a basic list of mistakes common found in landscape lighting. It also provides an opportunity to gauge where one might be within this trade, as it relates to experience and professionalism.

Mark has been performing in the green industry since 1987 and his multi-award winning designs and work includes national and international efforts. He has authored many Lighting documents and articles, including a book,  The Original Garden Lighting Book —co-authored with Michael Gambino. Mark is an engaged member of Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals (AOLP) for many years, and is owner of Avalon Lighting Design in Orangevale California. His firm is dedicated to lighting design, installation and maintenance. Mark served in the US Army for many years, obtained his BSc degree in Botany and has studied landscape architecture, business and music has been married for 25+ years, with 2 boys and 3 dogs.
