In Memoriam — Leo Franz Mettel
November 14, 1929 – June 10, 2022
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Leo Franz Mettel of Richmond Hill, who died on June 10, 2022. Leo was 92 years old.
Devoted husband to Elizabeth (Betty) Mettel for 62 years. Loving father to Brian (Donna) and Stephen, and proud grandfather to Alexandra and Nicholas. Dear brother of Bruno and his wife Kathe. Leo follows his younger brother, the late Alfons (Rosal). He is survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends.
Leo will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a proud father, successful businessman and entrepreneur and an avid traveller.
Born in Bolzig, Germany, Leo liked to tell the story of arriving in Canada with $50 in his pocket. He worked hard and long hours to achieve his success. Leo, together with his brother Bruno, formed B&L Mettel Limited — a successful landscape business based in Richmond Hill, Ont., that has been going strong for over 66 years. Leo would often say the success of the business was in part due to the many hardworking and loyal employees.
Leo loved vacationing at his “cottage” in the South; Sunrise Resort in St. Pete’s, Florida, where he made friendships that have lasted decades.
