Hire a trained technician in Durham and Upper Canada this summer
The Horticultural Technician Pre-Apprenticeship Program at Loyalist College in Belleville, Ont., starts this July. Participants will be ready to work as soon as this summer.

This FREE program provides all students with tools, PPE and in-class training- allowing students to learn all the practical skills they need to get started as a member of your crew.

As part of the program, employers in the Upper Canada and Durham region can hire students working toward Apprenticeship level 1. Wages will be subsidized by the program up to $250 per week, to a maximum of $3,000 for 10-12 weeks.

This free training program is funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and is delivered by Landscape Ontario in partnership with Loyalist College in Belleville, Ont.

Program details:
  • Pre-Employment and Health & Safety Training: July 15 - August 2, 2024
  • Paid Work Placements: August 5 - November 1, 2024
  • Level 1 Horticulture Technician Apprenticeship Training: November 4, 2024 - February 7, 2025
  • Secondary Trade Exposure (Carpentry): February 10 - February 21, 2025
  • Job Readiness and Job Matching: February 24 - March 7, 2025

Participant eligibility:
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Completed grade 12 or equivalent
  • Be legally allowed to work in Canada
  • Be unemployed or employed less than 20 hrs per week
