Hire a trained horticultural technician apprentice
The Horticultural Technician Pre-Apprenticeship Program in Toronto, Ont., starts this August and trained participants will be ready to work in September.
This FREE program provides all students with tools, PPE and in-class training- allowing students to learn all the practical skills they need to get started as a member of your crew.
As part of the program, employers can hire students working toward their Level 1 Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship training. Wages will be subsidized by the program up to $250 per week, to a maximum of $3,000 for 10-12 weeks.
This free training program is funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and is delivered by Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association.

- Orientation, Health and Safety, and Pre-employment Training: Aug. 4-22, 2025
- Employment Readiness: Aug. 25-29, 2025
- Paid Work Placements: Sept. 1 - Dec. 1, 2025
- Secondary Trade Exposure - Carpentry: Dec. 8-19, 2025
- Level 1 Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship Training: Jan. 5 - March 27, 2026

Participant eligibility:
- Must be at least 18 years-old.
- Completed grade 12 or equivalent.
- Be legally allowed to work in Canada.
- Be unemployed or employed less than 20 hours per week.
