GardenWorks expands to South Surrey area
And then there were 10 – GardenWorks and its owner John Zaplatynsky recently announced the opening of another GardenWorks retail garden centre, bringing the total up to 10.
Located at the site of Ocean Park Nurseries in Ocean Park, South Surrey, the retail garden centre opened on October 3. Former Ocean Park Nurseries employees will be offered employment with the newest GardenWorks store and management will continue to draw future employees locally. All business transitions were expected to be complete by the October 3 opening.
“We’re very excited about this expansion by GardenWorks into our community,” expresses Ocean Park Nurseries owner Paul Johnson, who, with his brother Tim, has operated a very successful garden centre business for over 40 years.
“It really raises the calibre of service and selection for our customers, and adds to the experience opportunities for young people and gardening experts who want to work locally.”
This acquisition is beneficial for both parties, says Zaplatynsky, admitting his pleasure in having the chance to expand into the fast-growing White Rock – South Surrey market. “We are delighted to have the chance to build on their (the Johnson’s) reputation for great quality plants and fine customer service. Our larger business base will allow us to offer an even broader range of plants, garden supplies and knowledgeable information to the gardening consumer.”
GardenWorks is headquartered in Burnaby, B.C. and currently owns and operates nine other garden centres in Greater Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Victoria, B.C.
