Elections, seminars part of turfgrass show
Close to 800 golf course management professionals and over 100 trade suppliers participated in the 52nd Canadian International Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show in Vancouver, B.C.
Organized as a joint event by the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA) and the Western Canada Turfgrass Association, the show provided the perfect backdrop for the CGSA’s executive elections, as well as the renowned conference program designed to enhance professionalism in golf course management.
Jay Leach, superintendent of the Cottonwood Golf and Country Club in Dewinton, AB, steps into the role as president of the CGSA. The elections took place at the CGSA Annual General Meeting, February 26, and saw the election or reinstatement of the following directors:

Vice-President: Bill Fach, York Downs Golf & Country Club, Unionville, ON
Secretary-Treasurer/BC Director: Jim McGarvey, Seymour Golf & Country Club, North Vancouver, BC
Alberta Director: Neil Blayney, Highwood Golf & Country Club, High River, AB
Saskatchewan Director: Terry McNeilly, Saskatoon Golf & Country Club, Saskatoon, SK
Atlantic Director: Jim Nix, Abercrombie Country Club, New Glasgow, NS
Manitoba Director: Ian Martinusen, Breezy Bend Country Club, Headingly, MB
Ontario Director: Bob Burrows, Rosedale Golf Club, Toronto, ON.
Merlin Affleck of Stanhope Golf & Country Club, Stanhope, PEI will step into the role of past president.
Also remaining at the helm is Vince Gillis, CGSA executive director, who was recently awarded a contract extension by the CGSA Board of Directors. Gillis, a veteran of association management is one of the longest serving association executives in the industry, having been with the CGSA since 1989.
The 2002 conference will be held in Quebec City, March 2 to 5, in cooperation with the Quebec Golf Superintendents Association.
