Concrete paver use on the rise

Canadian and U.S. concrete paver sales increased substantially in the last two years, according to a recent study, which looked at sales per manufacturer reported between 1997 and 1999.

U.S. sales for 1999 were 4.7 million square feet, up from 3.8 million in 1998 and 3.1 million in 1997, while the Canadian market increased by 18.1 per cent in 1999 at 2.7 million square feet. In 1997, Canadian sales were at 2.5 million.

The residential market accounts for the largest portion of paver sales at 66 per cent, while the municipal and commercial use stands at 9.2 per cent and 24.6 per cent of sales, respectively.

The North American concrete market in 1999 was estimated at 370 million square feet, based on average sales of responding firms and the number of major concrete paver manufacturers in the U.S. The U.S. market accounted for 310 million while the Canadian market accounted for 60 million square feet.
