Government officials, landscape architects, designers, horticulturists and media were on hand for the official opening of the Canadian Heritage Garden at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, June 9. The garden, developed by The Canadian Heritage Garden Foundation in collaboration with the National Capital Commission was designed and constructed to mark the 125th anniversary of Confederation. The initiative to design the garden was launched in 1992 by then Governor General Ramon John Hnatyshyn and Mrs. Gerda Hnatyshyn, who, along with present Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, were in attendance at the opening.

     Also in attendance were Alvin D. Regehr, Landscape Architect and project manager of the Canadian Heritage Garden Foundation, as well as Claire Laberge, horticulturist at the Montreal Botanical Garden.

The Canadian Heritage Garden is privately funded.
