Foundation Research Programs

The Foundation contributes to funding for numerous research projects that benefit the entire landscape and horticulture professions. These projects lead to greater knowledge, better methods and newer technologies for the advancement of the profession.

In 2015 - 2016 fiscal year, the Foundation contributed to the following projects:
  • Ontario Turfgrass Research Foundation, OTRF ($10,000) — Integration of tools and turf species to promote sustainability in residential lawns.
  • Vineland Research — Funding of new research chair position to assist industry.
  • Skills Canada — Ontario Skills Canada competition awards for horticultural sector.
  • Trees for Life, Highway of Heroes Living Tribute: tree planting project along Highway 401 from Trenton to Toronto in memory of those who have lost their lives in Canadian military service.
  • Veterans Memorial Parkway (VMP), London
  • Trees for Rouge Found.
  • JT Somerville Fund — Christmas tree industry.

In 2013 - 2014 fiscal year, the Foundation contributed to the following projects:
  • Veterans Memorial Parkway Project ($121,528) —Tree planting and commemorative signs along
    highway in London.
  • Green Roofs for Healthy Cities ($58,000) — Community green infrastructure planning and evaluation project.
  • Vineland Research ($20,000) — funding of new research chair position to assist industry.
  • Skills Canada ($3,500) — Ontario Skills Canada competition – horticultural sector.
  • Trees for Life ($28,850) — Stated goal of TFL fund is to achieve 40 per cent urban tree cover.
  • Ontario Turfgrass Research Foundation ($5,000) — Integration of tools and turf species to promote sustainability in residential lawns.
