LO launches apprenticeship survey

July 19, 2016 - Landscape Ontario is seeking members to take part in an online survey in an effort to make the apprenticeship program more effective at meeting the industry's needs.

Currently, the horticultural technician apprenticeship program in Ontario combines on-the-job, paid training with classroom learning that is subsidized by the provincial government. Typically, apprentices spend four to six years completing their training and certification requirements, with about 80 per cent of their time spent in the workplace and the remaining 20 per cent completed in school over two 12-week winter semesters.

The Ontario Government pays for approximately 85 per cent of the education costs, and some apprentices are eligible for employment insurance during classroom sessions.
