COVID-19 - Resources

Safety first

LO members should know Ontario's Essential Workplaces list was recently amended; please see Section 20 at this link. Your association received about 70 calls today, and many callers asked if the amendment affected LO's position on whether members should pause work during the current emergency order, or operate.

The new amendment lists "Maintenance, repair and property management services strictly necessary to manage and maintain the safety, security, sanitation and essential operation of institutional, commercial, industrial and residential properties and buildings" as essential. However, it still does not specifically describe many horticultural activities. The LO Covid-19 Task Force is lobbying the government for clear answers on this critical question.

In the meanwhile, LO's position remains the same. In light of our ultimate safety responsibility, member companies are urged to not work, unless you can cite specific government permission, upgraded safety protocols are in place and you have confirmed insurance coverage.

Please watch LO's Covid-19 Research Hub for up-to-date information, and join the Task Force tomorrow at 10 a.m. for a Town Hall webinar. Ask questions, and listen to other business owners talk about ways to weather this storm — together.
