Support the Apprenticeship Program for the Georgian Lakelands Chapter

It’s time to enhance the availability of training in the Georgian Lakelands Chapter region by bringing the delivery of the apprenticeship program to this area.  

The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) manages provincial programs to support workplace training and workplace preparation including apprenticeship programs. The apprenticeship training program provides skills development that meets approval by the corresponding trade or occupation.

An apprentice is someone who learns a skilled trade on the job, under the direction of more experienced workers. Apprentices also complete classroom instruction as a part of their training.

 How apprenticeship works:

• The apprenticeship model of training fits the training needs of the workplace
• Training is delivered primarily on-the-job
• A journeyperson/apprentice training relationship will exist and there are qualified skilled workers (deemed equivalent of journeypersons) available and able to provide on-the-job training
• Related theoretical training is part of the overall training program
• Duration of training is based on past related skills experience and achievement of the standardized in school and on-the-job training.

Who will benefit?

• Workers will benefit through employment from skilled professional employers.
•  Employers will have access to more skilled employees.
• The Georgian Lakeland Chapter region will benefit from the addition of skilled horticultural technicians to support green infrastructure.
